Speaker 1: Hey, guys. We’re here to show you some stuff about the electrical system. A lot of people are asking if their electrical system will pass for inspections if they have an old two-wire system, a case which is very common in old houses like this. You can tell we’re working on this one right now.

I’ll show you a couple things. Of course, the dead giveaway is if you only have two prongs and not the three prongs; but even if you have three prongs, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a three-wire system to ground. I’m going to show you with this little tool right here how we check. You can tell that these two are not lit up, so this is a two-wire system. It’s not grounded properly.

You can replace these breakers with what is called arc fault breakers, which are these right here. Basically with a two-wire system, they’re saying it’s a much easier chance to get shocked. With that arc fault breaker that fixes that problem, that’s not the cheapest fix because they’re about $50 a piece and they need to be installed by a licensed electrician, obviously, but it is cheaper than rewiring the whole house.
